Mr Steve Agius

Chairman of the Adjudication Committee

Steve Agius works as a Chief of Information and Development with the Malta Communications Authority. Apart from his role in Strategic Information Management, he is currently coordinating a number of national initiatives aimed at supporting E-inclusion and digital participation. He has also participated in the crafting of the national digital strategy, Digital Malta. Steve is also a Visiting Senior Lecturer at University of Malta where he lectures Digital Analytics for Marketing Professionals and Digital Marketing. Steve is the co-founder of the Malta Internet Governance Forum and EuroCloud Malta and participates in the EC High Level Working Group on Internet Governance. He is also a core member of the ENISA expert working group on Cloud Computing advising the EU on cloud computing security issues. Steve studied computer science and information systems and gained an honours degree from the University of Greenwich in UK followed by an MBA in e-Business from the University of Malta. He is currently researching big data, social media analytics, sentiment analysis and business intelligence.

Mr John Mallia

John Mallia (BA (Hons) Bus. Mangt; MBA), is Managing Director, Mediacoop, a media, marketing, communications, PR and training co-operative. His past work experiences include the National Audit Office, St. Edward’s College and Grands Real Estate Marketing and Capital Radio. He has been involved in training since 1998, and has conducted courses both for public as well as for private sector organisations. John Mallia specialises in the areas of motivational training as well as customer care and PR. He also provides consultancy services relating to customer care, work relationships, marketing, image management, Public Relations, teamwork, communication and co-operatives. John Mallia has been involved in various high profile marketing and PR campaigns, and also facilitates various teambuilding events. He has directed different award-winning media productions for television including ‘Harbourlife’ and ‘Valletta – Ilwien ta’ Belt’ on TVM, as well videos for corporate clients. He is also President of the Malta Co-operative Federation.

Marcel Mizzi

Marcel Mizzi successfully managed various businesses including numerous retail and service companies. Today, he a director of several companies and works as a freelance ICT consultant and Internet application solution provider. Mr. Mizzi has vast experience in many areas of ICT such as support services, hardware, network design and implementation as well as software and web development. He is qualified at BSc (Hons) level in Internet Application Development and obtained a Master’s degree in ICT Project Management at Middlesex University London. As part of his work he is actively involved in designing and developing online software solutions. Marcel has been Vice President of the Malta Chamber of SMEs for a number of years. He has actively participated in European Commission working groups and many international fora. He heads the Chamber’s Digital Section and is also involved in waste management as Chairman of WEEE Malta Ltd, board member of both GreenMT Ltd and Energy Malta Ltd.

Maria Micallef

Maria, Managing partner RSM Malta, has been in practice for a significant number of years during which time she obtained extensive experience in assurance, risk management and business advisory services, both locally and overseas. Maria is responsible for major assignments relating to corporate finance, internal audit, due diligence, business restructuring and investment appraisals. She is also actively involved in merger and acquisition deals. Maria is a visiting lecturer at the University of Malta. She also provides training courses to internal auditors in the public and private sectors. Currently Maria participates in Continued Professional Education Seminars lecturing on Internal Audit and Fraud. Maria is a council member and ex-President of the Malta Institute of Accountants.

Michael Galea

Ernest Cachia

Professor Ernest Cachia currently holds the post of Dean of the Faculty of Information and Communication Technology and is also the Head of the Department of Computer Information Systems, as well as the Chairman of the Institute of Aerospace Technologies at the University of Malta. Professor Cachia holds Bachelor, Master’s and Doctorate Degrees in Computing, Computer Engineering, and Software Engineering from the National Technical University of Ukraine and from the University of Sheffield in England. Professor Cachia has worked in various Electronics and ICT companies, and private educational establishments, and since 1994 holds a tenured academic post at the University of Malta. Professor Cachia was and is involved in various EU projects including project leader managing a multi-million Euro ERDF project for the construction and equipping of the existing Faculty of ICT building. Academically, Professor Cachia is currently responsible for the software engineering and software project management streams in both B.Sc. IT (Hons) Software Development and B.Sc. IT (Hons) Computing and Business Degree programmes of the Faculty of ICT at the University of Malta.
